Pulmonary Rehabilitation
The pulmonary program at Harbour Health and Hawthorn Health welcomes patients with diagnoses of either obstructive pulmonary or restrictive lung diseases who need rehabilitation post-hospitalization.
The goal of the pulmonary program is to stabilize, or in some cases reverse, both the pathophysiology and psychopathology of the pulmonary disease. The program is designed to return the patient to the highest functional capacity allowed by his or her pulmonary disease and improve the overall quality of life. This is achieved through:
- Expert physician medical management, supervised by the pulmonologists at Buffalo Cardiology and Pulmonology Associates in Williamsville
- Extensive physical, occupational, and respiratory therapies
- Detailed patient education regarding the disease process, smoking cessation, negative environmental factors, immunizations, and medication management
Components of a successful recovery care stay include:
- Improved quality of life
- Increased abilities to perform activities of daily living
- Decrease in length of hospital stay
- Decrease in anxiety and depression
- Increased pulmonary function
- Increased education and understanding of continuing pulmonary concerns
