What to Expect

Once you have been admitted to the Recovery Care rehabilitation unit, you will be assessed by a nurse.  Subsequently, you will meet each member of the interdisciplinary team, who will further assess your physical needs.  Within 72 hours of admission, you will meet the attending physician, who will make weekly follow-up visits.  The team will set up individualized goals and plan for treatment.  The goals will be decided in conjunction with you and your family and will be based on what treatments are needed for you to be safely discharged home.  The interdisciplinary team meets weekly to discuss each patient’s progress in meeting these goals.

Each patient is encouraged to attend meals in our Recovery Care dining room.  We encourage patients to get out of their rooms and socialize with other Recovery Care patients.

Patients are expected to be out of bed and dressed in street clothing as they would be at home.  Staff is available to assist patients and encourage them to gradually become independent in caring for themselves.  Most patients attend at least two hours of therapy a day for as many as six days a week.  Therapy sessions are not scheduled on Sundays.

When the patient is ready to be discharged home, the interdisciplinary Recovery Care team will arrange for necessary home-care services and equipment.  When discharged home, the patient will receive a written comprehensive discharge instruction sheet and a 30-day supply of prescriptions.
